What is RT-GLP1?
RT-GLP1 is an investigational peptide developed by Eli Lilly. It is a single molecule that acts on three hormone receptors at once: GLP-1, GIP and glucagon. That is why it is usually described as a triple agonist, and why it is compared with the dual agonist tirzepatide and the single agonist semaglutide.
How RT-GLP1 is studied
RT-GLP1 has been studied in Phase 2 clinical research published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2023, and is being evaluated in Lilly's Phase 3 TRIUMPH programme. In the laboratory it is used to study how the three receptor pathways interact in energy metabolism.
